Levels, currency (gil. FF7's original PC release had issues with NT based OSes (though I remember there being a fan patch to make the game work better on XP). I remember it crashing within moments of gameplay starting when I tried to run it on Windows NT 4 way back in the day. But I don't think 8 had the same problems. Final Fantasy VIII PC. PlayStation Nintendo Switch PC PlayStation 4 Xbox One. I tried the patch and it doesn't work and PLEASE don't tell me to right-click it and select the compatibility mode to Windows 98. I dunno why people keep asking me to do this but everythime I do so it doesn't work. Final Fantasy VIII was a great follow up to Final Fantasy VII which was a huge success (and a tough act to follow). It differed just enough from its predecessor to make it a unique and enjoyable game without straying far enough from the FF formula to lose many of the nostalgic elements that fans of the series were hoping to see.

Key points
- Has a different MIDI compared to the PS1 version of the game.
- Higher resolution 480p FMVs than the PlayStation version.[1]
- Unfavorable to the PlayStation version in areas: Out of combat movement is limited 8 directions as opposed to complete circular movement.[2]
- While all PlayStation version's menus run at 60 FPS, excluding main menu screens, the PC frame rate is capped at 30 FPS, 15 FPS during combat and FMVs making selection during battles sluggish.[3]

Localizations
Issues fixed[edit]
Running from an ISO or another drive[edit]
- By default the game uses the first physical CD-ROM drive location for CD checks. If you wish to use another drive (common when using an ISO), edit the registry:
- Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIII1.00DataDrive
- If that doesn't exist go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIII1.00DataDrive
- Change its value to the drive letter that the .ISO occupies(usually E or F), and relaunch the game.
8-bit paletted textures fix[edit]
- When attempting to run FF8 PC on a modern system, the game's launcher will fail on video cards lacking 8-bit texture support. This causes the game to use textures that are of a lower resolution. To fix this, as well as allow the game to run at higher resolutions, download the custom launcher that may be found here.
Graphical issues[edit]
- If you have graphical issues or artifacts, use Aali's custom driver.
